Respuesta rápida: Para presentarte en inglés usas el verbo to be: I am, you are, he is, she is, it is, we are, they are. Con él dices tu nombre, tu edad y tu nacionalidad, niegas con not y preguntas poniendo el verbo antes del sujeto, por ejemplo Are you Spanish?

Ejemplos

- Ximena and Joaquín are cousins. They’re in 1.º ESO. — Ximena y Joaquín son primos.
- The bus is late. It’s raining.
Regla
Negativa: sujeto + verbo + not (She is not / She isn’t). Pregunta: verbo + sujeto (Is she Irish?). Respuesta corta: Yes, she is. / No, she isn’t.
En la respuesta afirmativa corta no se contrae: Yes, I am, nunca «Yes, I’m».
¿Cómo digo mi nacionalidad y mi edad?
Con to be y sin artículo: I’m Spanish. I’m from Bilbao. I’m thirteen. Para preguntar: Where are you from? y How old are you?
Error típico
No digas I have 13 years ni Is very tall. Lo correcto es I am 13 y She is very tall. Tampoco mezcles formas: He are y They is son incorrectas.
Nota cultural
Yo me digo I am… she is… they are… en voz baja mientras camino hacia el instituto.
Lo esencial del verbo to be
- To be traduce «ser» y «estar», y es irregular: am, is, are.
- En inglés el sujeto es obligatorio: She is tall, nunca «Is tall».
- La edad se dice con to be: I am 13, no «I have 13 years».
¿Cuándo se usa am, is y are?
Am va solo con I. Is va con he, she, it y con sujetos singulares. Are va con you, we, they y con sujetos plurales.
¿Cómo se dice «tengo 13 años» en inglés?
Se dice I am 13 o I’m 13 years old. Con la edad se usa to be, no to have.
¿Cómo hago la negativa con to be?
Pones not después del verbo: He is not o He isn’t. Con I solo existe I’m not.
Se dice It is cold y She is at home, no «Is cold» ni «Is at home».
¿Cómo respondo a Are you Spanish?
Con una respuesta corta: Yes, I am o No, I’m not.
