Para un futuro cercano usa be about to (inmediato), be due to (previsto) y be on the verge of (al borde de un cambio).

Llevan siempre una referencia como by Friday, by the time o in 2030.

Tiempo Forma Ejemplo
Future perfect will have + participio By June, Daniela will have finished her thesis. — Para junio, Daniela habrá terminado la tesis.
Future perfect continuous will have been + -ing By June, she will have been writing for a year. — En junio llevará un año escribiendo.

Regla

Después de by the time, when o before se usa el presente simple, nunca will: By the time you arrive, I will have left.

¿Qué diferencia hay entre be about to, be due to y be on the verge of?

Tres expresiones

  • be about to + infinitivo: va a ocurrir en un instante. The train is about to leave. — El tren está a punto de salir.
  • be due to + infinitivo: está previsto o programado. The report is due to arrive on Monday. — El informe debe llegar el lunes.
  • be on the verge of + -ing o nombre: se está al borde de un cambio importante. The company is on the verge of closing. — La empresa está al borde del cierre.
Escala de cercanía: be about to es lo más inmediato, be on the verge of expresa estar casi a punto de un cambio, be due to indica algo programadoabout toon the verge ofdue toahora mismoal borde desegún el plan

Ejemplos

  • I was about to call you when you texted.
  • The new tram line is due to open in March.
  • Iker is on the verge of quitting his job.

  • By Friday I will finish suena incompleto si quieres decir «para el viernes ya habré terminado»: usa I will have finished.
  • No digas on the verge to cry: después de of va el gerundio, on the verge of crying.
  • Be due to + infinitivo es «estar previsto»; due to + nombre significa «debido a»: due to the rain.

Nota cultural

The 9:15 to Leeds is due at platform 4.

Si la acción ya estará hecha, usa will have; si sigue en marcha, will have been.

Lo esencial del future perfect continuous

  • Future perfect: will have + participio; future perfect continuous: will have been + -ing.
  • Tras by the time o when se usa el presente simple, no will.
  • Be about to + infinitivo: ahora mismo; be due to + infinitivo: según lo previsto.
  • Be on the verge of + -ing o nombre: al borde de un cambio importante.

Se dice By Friday I will have finished.

¿Cuándo uso will have been working y no will have worked?

Cuando importa cuánto tiempo llevará algo en marcha: By May I will have been working here for a year. Si importa el resultado, usa el simple.

¿Be about to y be going to significan lo mismo?

No. Be going to habla de planes o previsiones en general; be about to dice que la acción empieza ahora mismo: The lights are about to go out.

¿Qué significa be due to?

The tickets are due to go on sale at noon.

Con be on the verge of + gerundio o nombre: The village is on the verge of disappearing. También hay be on the brink of, algo más formal.
