«Me dijo que llegaba tarde», «me preguntó si tenía hambre»: el estilo indirecto sirve para contar lo que alguien dijo. En inglés cambian los tiempos verbales y las referencias de tiempo. Esta lección te enseña a transmitir mensajes con said that, told me y asked if, de forma natural.

Lo que debes recordar
- En el estilo indirecto, el tiempo retrocede: am → was, will → would, can → could.
- Say no lleva persona directa: She said that…; tell sí: She told me that…
- Para preguntas de sí o no, se usa if: He asked me if I was hungry.
- Cambian las referencias de tiempo: tomorrow → the next day, yesterday → the day before.

Preguntas frecuentes
¿Cuándo uso «say» y cuándo «tell»?
Say va sin complemento de persona: She said that she was tired. Tell lleva la persona: She told me that she was tired. Se dice told me, nunca said me.
¿Se debe usar siempre el retroceso de tiempos?
Si el mensaje sigue siendo válido, puedes mantener el presente: She says she’s tired. En los exámenes se pide casi siempre el retroceso: She said she was tired.
