  • Pour aborder quelqu’un poliment : Excuse me, puis Can you help me, please?
  • Pour demander : Where’s the…?, Is there a… near here?, How do I get to…?
  • Les indications se donnent à l’impératif : turn left, turn right, go straight on, take the first left, cross the road.
  • Pour situer un lieu : next to, opposite, between, on the corner, on your left / right.

Questions fréquentes

Quelle différence entre « Where's the station? » et « Is there a station near here? » ?

On dit Where's the… quand on sait que le lieu existe. On dit Is there a… near here? quand on ne sait pas s'il y en a un dans le quartier.

Comment ne plus confondre « right » et « left » ?

Lève tes deux mains, paumes vers toi, pouces écartés : la main gauche dessine un L, comme Left. Right, c'est l'autre côté.

Pourquoi « go straight on » et pas seulement « go straight » ?

En anglais britannique, on dit go straight on pour aller tout droit. Les Américains disent plutôt go straight ahead. Les deux sont corrects.
