Correction de l’exercice 1 : Le passif impersonnel

Correction de l’exercice 2 : Le passif personnel
  1. The old bridge is said to be unsafe.
  2. The suspect is believed to be in Spain.
  3. She is considered (to be) the best player of her generation.
  4. The storm is expected to reach the coast tonight.
  5. The ship was thought to be unsinkable.
  6. He is known to be a generous man.
Correction de l’exercice 3 : La bonne forme d’infinitif
  1. to have escaped : antérieur (last night).
  2. to be staying : en cours (at the moment).
  3. to have been built : antérieur et passif.
  4. to speak : fait permanent.
  5. to have died
  6. to be preparing : right now.

  8. to announce : futur avec expect.
Correction de l’exercice 4 : Le passif à deux compléments
  1. The winner was given a trophy.
  2. I was sent an anonymous letter.

  6. The first-years are taught chemistry by Mr Patel. : l’agent est conservé car il est informatif.
Correction de l’exercice 5 : Les verbes prépositionnels

Correction de l’exercice 6 : Le passif avec get
  1. get

  4. get : après be bound to, base verbale.

Correction de l’exercice 7 : Infinitif et gérondif passifs
  1. to be cleaned (ou cleaning)
  2. being criticised : like + gérondif.
  3. to be left
  4. be repaired : have to est déjà suivi de to.
  5. being taken : remember + -ing pour un souvenir.
  6. be shown : après un modal, base verbale.
Correction de l’exercice 8 : Corriger les erreurs
  1. The castle is said to be haunted. (ou It is said that the castle is haunted.)
  2. She was given a prize.
  3. The rules were explained to me.
  4. He is believed to have fled the country.
  5. The baby was looked after by her grandmother.
  6. My car got repaired last week.
  7. They are said to be rich.
  8. The thief is thought to have escaped yesterday.
Correction de l’exercice 9 : Une une de journal
  1. « It is estimated that more than 2,000 houses have been damaged. »
  2. It is believed that thousands (of people) have fled flooded villages.
  3. « victims are being given blankets and hot meals » : Volunteers are giving victims blankets and hot meals.
  4. « who got cut off by the water » : get souligne un événement subi, imprévu, dans un récit de témoin au ton familier.
  5. Les familles sont encore bloquées au moment où l’article est écrit : la situation est en cours, d’où to be + adjectif/participe, et non un infinitif passé.
  6. « an inquiry is likely to be launched next week »
Correction de l’exercice 10 : Traduire en anglais
  1. This lake is said to be very deep. (ou It is said that this lake is very deep.)
  2. The thieves are thought to have gone to Scotland.
  3. I was offered an internship in London.
  4. He was laughed at.
  5. She got arrested at the border.
  6. You will be well looked after.
Correction de l’exercice 11 : Traduire en français
  1. Le suspect aurait quitté le pays.
  2. On nous a promis une augmentation.
  3. La nouvelle loi devrait être votée le mois prochain.
  4. Il s’est fait prendre en train de tricher.
  5. Beaucoup pensent que l’économie va se redresser. (ou On s’accorde à penser que…)
Correction de l’exercice 12 : Production guidée

Exemple de réponse :

It is reported that a Viking ship has been discovered under a car park in York. The vessel is believed to have sunk in the river more than a thousand years ago. Archaeologists are said to be working day and night to protect the wood. The young engineer who spotted it has been offered a job by the museum. Several visitors got stopped by security as they tried to enter the site. The ship is expected to be displayed to the public next year.

Comment progresser après ce corrigé

Lisez chaque semaine deux ou trois titres de presse anglophone et repérez les structures are believed to, is reported to ou was given : vous verrez qu’elles sont partout. Entraînez-vous ensuite à les traduire par le conditionnel journalistique ou par « on », sans calque. Enfin, dans vos rédactions, remplacez une ou deux tournures avec people say par un passif personnel : c’est un marqueur net du niveau B2.
