My grandfather worked in a coal mine in South Wales for forty years. Every morning, he would leave the house at five and walk two miles to the pit. In those days, the village used to have three chapels and a brass band, and everybody knew everybody. When the mine closed, he found it hard to get used to staying at home. Today, he runs a small museum where he shows visitors his old lamp.
