Correction de l’exercice 1 : Former la structure- You should have gone to bed earlier.
- They must have forgotten the meeting.
- She can’t have seen us from that distance.
- I might have left my phone on the bus.
- We shouldn’t have bought such an expensive car.
- He could have won the race if he hadn’t fallen.
Le modal reste invariable, seul le participe passé porte le sens passé.

- must have : déduction à partir de la vitre cassée.
- shouldn’t have : reproche.
- can’t have : le contraire de must have n’est jamais mustn’t have.
- might have : le locuteur n’est pas sûr.
- needn’t have : action faite mais inutile.
- could have : possibilité non réalisée.
- He should have revised.
- She shouldn’t have gone out in the snow without a coat.
- We should have taken a map.
- I shouldn’t have stayed up until 3 a.m.

- Someone must have used Molly’s key (la seule clé existante).

Comment progresser après ce corrigé
Relevez vos erreurs et classez-les : forme (have, participe passé) ou sens (déduction contre reproche). Si vous confondez must have et should have, relisez l’échelle de certitude du cours. Entraînez-vous ensuite à l’oral en commentant une photo ou un fait divers : « he must have… », « she can’t have… », « they should have… ». Réemployez enfin deux ou trois de ces structures dans votre prochain essai, elles valorisent nettement une copie de terminale.
