Voici le corrigé décrire une image, exercice par exercice. Vérifie d’abord tes réponses, puis lis les explications : elles reviennent sur les fautes que commettent presque tous les élèves.

Correction de l’exercice 1 : La nature du document
  1. a poster
  2. a painting
  3. a cartoon
  4. a photograph (ou a photo)
  5. an advert (an ad, an advertisement) : an devant une voyelle.
  6. a book cover

Attention : a cartoon désigne un dessin humoristique, pas forcément un dessin animé.

Correction de l’exercice 2 : Où est-ce ?
  1. The sun is in the top right-hand corner.
  2. A bird is flying in the top left-hand corner.
  3. The tree is on the left of the picture.
  4. The house is in the background, far away.
  5. The dog is sleeping in the bottom right-hand corner (ou in the foreground, on the right).
  6. The girl is standing in the centre (ou in the middle) of the picture.
  7. The ball is in front of the girl, at the bottom of the picture.
Correction de l’exercice 3 : There is ou there are ?
  1. there are (two children)
  2. There is (a lighthouse)
  3. there are (some boats)
  4. There are (people est pluriel)
  5. there is : on accorde avec le premier élément, an old map.
  6. There are (no clouds, pluriel)
Correction de l’exercice 4 : Ce qui se passe
  1. A man is walking his dog along the river.
  2. Two girls are taking a selfie. (take perd son e)
  3. The waiter is carrying a tray.
  4. It is raining heavily.
  5. The children aren’t listening to the teacher.
  6. An old lady is sitting on a bench. (le t est doublé)
  7. The sun is setting behind the hills.
Correction de l’exercice 5 : Look, look like ou seem to ?
  1. looks : tired est un adjectif.
  2. looks like : a spaceship est un nom.
  3. seems to : suivi de la base verbale be.
  4. look : dark et heavy sont des adjectifs.
  5. looks like : a famous singer est un nom.
  6. seem to : il faut to devant be.
Correction de l’exercice 6 : Faire des hypothèses
  1. They might be brothers.
  2. He must be cold.
  3. The woman might be a teacher.
  4. It must be a holiday.
  5. The picture might have been taken in Scotland. Réponse plus simple acceptée : It might be Scotland.

Might exprime un doute, must une déduction presque sûre, fondée sur un indice visible.

Correction de l’exercice 7 : Remets dans l’ordre
  1. In the foreground, a cat is sleeping.
  2. In the background, we can see mountains. (ou We can see mountains in the background.)
  3. It is a colour photo.
  4. In the top left-hand corner, there is a clock.
  5. She seems to be lost.
  6. I like this picture because it’s funny.
Correction de l’exercice 8 : Corrige l’erreur
  1. In the picture, there is a red car.
  2. In the foreground, a girl is dancing.
  3. There are a lot of people in the square.
  4. The man looks sad. (pas de like devant un adjectif)
  5. On the left, we can see a church.
  6. Two boys are playing football in the picture.
  7. At the top of the picture, there is a plane.
Correction de l’exercice 9 : Traduis en anglais
  1. This document is a painting.
  2. In the background, we can see a castle.
  3. In the foreground, a boy is running.
  4. She looks happy.
  5. They might be lost. (ou Maybe they are lost.)
  6. It reminds me of my holidays.
Correction de l’exercice 10 : Lis la description
  1. False : « a black and white photograph ».
  2. True : « taken in New York in the 1930s ».
  3. False : « eleven workers are sitting on a metal beam ».
  4. True : « They are eating their lunch ».
  5. True : « we can see tall buildings and Central Park ».
  6. False : « The men don’t seem to be afraid at all ».
  7. False : « I find this photo impressive but a bit scary ».
Correction de l’exercice 11 : Ta description guidée

Exemple de réponse modèle :

  1. This document is a colour photograph taken at a market in Dublin.
  2. In the foreground, there are stalls full of fruit and flowers.
  3. In the background, we can see old red-brick houses and a church.
  4. A young woman is buying apples and chatting with the seller.
  5. It must be the weekend because the market is very crowded.
  6. I like this photo because it is lively and full of colours.

Comment progresser après ce corrigé

Entraîne-toi avec n’importe quelle image : une affiche dans la rue, une photo de ton téléphone, une couverture de livre. Dis à voix haute une phrase pour chaque étape (présenter, situer, supposer, réagir), en chronométrant une minute. Note sur un carnet les erreurs qui reviennent, en particulier on/in the picture et look/look like, et relis-les avant chaque oral.
