People call me the wicked stepmother, but nobody knows what really happened. When my husband died, I was left with three girls and no money. I worked day and night to keep the house. Yes, I asked Cinderella to help with the cleaning, but my own daughters worked too. The night of the ball, I didn’t lock her in the attic: she simply decided to go alone, in a dress she never explained. When the prince came with that glass slipper, I was the only one who asked questions. Maybe I was strict. But in a world without fairies, someone has to pay the bills.
