Exercice 1 : What ou how ?

Complète avec what, what a / an ou how.

  1. ___ goal!
  2. ___ brave you are!
  3. ___ terrible news!
  4. ___ ordeal it was!
  5. ___ beautifully she dances!
  6. ___ lovely flowers!
  7. ___ strange!
  8. ___ amazing view!
Exercice 2 : Transformer en exclamation avec how

Transforme la phrase en exclamation avec how. Exemple : They were very courageous. → How courageous they were!

  1. She is very talented.
  2. The film was really boring.
  3. He drives very fast.
  4. You look very tired.
  5. The children were extremely noisy.
  6. This city has changed a lot.
Exercice 3 : Transformer en exclamation avec what

Transforme la phrase en exclamation avec what. Exemple : It’s a very nice car. → What a nice car!

  1. It was a very long journey.
  2. They are very kind people.
  3. It is really awful weather.
  4. That was a really silly mistake.
  5. It’s a very old castle.
  6. He gave me very useful advice.
Exercice 4 : So ou such ?

Complète avec so, such ou such a / an.

  1. The match was ___ exciting!
  2. It was ___ exciting match!
  3. They are ___ good friends.
  4. I’ve never seen ___ beautiful sunset.
  5. Why are you ___ angry?
  6. It was ___ nonsense!
Exercice 5 : Associer le phrasal verb et son sens

Associe chaque phrasal verb à sa définition.

  1. figure out
  2. cheer up
  3. get by
  4. give up
  5. run out of
  6. put up with
  7. come up with

a. stop trying — b. manage with what you have — c. tolerate — d. understand, solve — e. have no more of something — f. become happier, make someone happier — g. think of an idea

Exercice 6 : Compléter avec le bon phrasal verb

Complète avec figure out, cheer up, get by, find out, carry on ou look after, au bon temps.

  1. Don’t stop! ___ talking, it’s interesting.
  2. I don’t speak Italian well, but I can ___.
  3. She was sad, so we bought her flowers to ___ her ___.
  4. Who ___ your dog when you’re on holiday?
  5. The detective finally ___ who the thief was.
  6. I couldn’t ___ how to open the app, so I asked my brother.
Exercice 7 : Le pronom au bon endroit

Remplace le complément en italique par un pronom (it, him, her, them) et place-le correctement.

  1. I can’t figure out the answer.
  2. Let’s cheer up Tom.
  3. Please turn down the music.
  4. She looks after her grandparents.
  5. He gave up his job.
  6. We found out the truth.
Exercice 8 : Corriger les erreurs

Chaque phrase contient une erreur. Corrige-la.

  1. How beautiful is she!
  2. What day!
  3. What a good weather!
  4. I figured out it in the end.
  5. How a great idea!
  6. She gave up to smoke last year.
  7. We have run out milk.
Exercice 9 : Compréhension d’un dialogue

Lis le dialogue, puis réponds aux questions en anglais.

Maya: What a nightmare! I’ve lost my wallet and my phone is dead.

Josh: Oh no, how awful! Cheer up, we’ll figure something out.

Maya: But I’ve run out of cash too. How am I going to get home?

Josh: Don’t worry, I’ve got enough for two bus tickets. We’ll get by.

Maya: How kind of you! What a relief!

Josh: And tomorrow we’ll find out if someone handed your wallet in.

  1. What two problems does Maya have at first?
  2. Which phrasal verb does Josh use to comfort her?
  3. What else has Maya run out of?
  4. How will they get home?
  5. Find two exclamations with what and two with how.
  6. What will they find out tomorrow?
Exercice 10 : Réagir avec une exclamation

Réagis à chaque situation par une exclamation avec what ou how.

  1. Your friend has just won a prize.
  2. You see a huge spider in your bedroom.
  3. The waiter brings you an enormous pizza.
  4. Your team lost 6-0.
  5. Your little cousin has grown a lot.
  6. It’s snowing in May.
Exercice 11 : Traduire en anglais

Traduis ces phrases.

  1. Quelle épreuve !
  2. Comme ils ont été courageux !
  3. Quel temps magnifique !
  4. Je n’arrive pas à comprendre ce problème.
  5. Elle se débrouille en allemand.
  6. Remonte-lui le moral !
  7. Nous n’avons plus de pain.
Exercice 12 : Traduire en français

Traduis ces phrases en français.

  1. How well you speak English!
  2. What a waste of time!
  3. They get by on very little money.
  4. She came up with a brilliant solution.
  5. I can’t put up with his rudeness any more.
Exercice 13 : Production guidée

Écris un court dialogue (8 répliques) entre deux supporters pendant un match décisif. Utilise :

  1. au moins deux exclamations avec what (a)
  2. au moins deux exclamations avec how
  3. le phrasal verb cheer up
  4. le phrasal verb give up ou carry on
  5. un autre phrasal verb du cours
