This poster was published in Britain during the Second World War. In the centre, a tall soldier is pointing straight at the viewer. He is shown from a low angle, so he looks strong and determined. The background is plain red, which makes him stand out. At the top, the slogan “Your country needs YOU” is printed in bold white letters. The artist clearly wants to make every young man feel personally responsible. The direct look and the imperative tone leave no room for hesitation. Such posters must have been very effective, since thousands of volunteers joined the army.
