Teenagers plant a forest in the city

Students at Greenfield High School in Manchester have turned an empty car park into a small forest. The project started last September, when a group of fourteen-year-olds asked the council for permission to plant trees. After three months of fundraising, they bought two hundred young trees and planted them in a single weekend. Sarah Khan, 15, who led the project, said that she had never imagined so many neighbours would help. According to the school, the forest will absorb pollution and offer a quiet place to study. The pupils now hope that other schools will follow their example.
