Ces exercices adjectifs composés commencent par la formation des composés (nombres, -ed, participes), passent ensuite à l’emphase avec do, does, did et finissent par les adverbes d’intensité. Le dernier exercice te demande d’écrire une critique pleine d’emphase.

Exercices adjectifs composés et emphase

Exercice 1 : Nombre + nom

Transforme chaque groupe en adjectif composé placé devant le nom.

  1. a journey that lasts two hours → a ___ journey
  2. a boy who is twelve years old → a ___ boy
  3. a break of fifteen minutes → a ___ break
  4. a note of ten pounds → a ___ note
  5. a trip of three days → a ___ trip
  6. a building with forty storeys → a ___ building
  7. a walk of five kilometres → a ___ walk
  8. a contract for six months → a ___ contract
Exercice 2 : Adjectif + nom + -ed

Réécris avec un adjectif composé en -ed.

  1. a man with black hair
  2. a baby with blue eyes
  3. a player who uses his left hand
  4. a teacher with a kind heart
  5. a shirt with short sleeves
  6. a person with an open mind
Exercice 3 : Associe les deux moitiés

Associe chaque début (1 à 8) à sa fin (a à h) pour former un adjectif composé, puis traduis-le.

Exercice 4 : Singulier ou pluriel ?

Choisis la bonne forme.

  1. We had a (three-hour / three-hours) exam.
  2. The exam lasted three (hour / hours).
  3. My sister is ten (year old / years old).
  4. She has a (ten-year-old / ten-years-old) son.
  5. It’s a (five-star / five-stars) hotel.
  6. The hotel has five (star / stars).
Exercice 5 : L’emphase avec do, does, did

Rends ces phrases emphatiques avec do, does ou did.

  1. I like your jacket!
  2. He works hard.
  3. We visited the Tower of London.
  4. She plays the violin.
  5. They tried their best.
  6. I remember that day.
  7. Sit down, please.
Exercice 6 : Contredis la personne

Réponds en contredisant avec une forme emphatique, comme dans l’exemple : You didn’t call me. → I did call you!

  1. You don’t like vegetables.
  2. Tom didn’t finish his homework.
  3. Your parents don’t speak English.
  4. You didn’t lock the door.
  5. Emma doesn’t help at home.
  6. You didn’t read the book.
Exercice 7 : Very ou absolutely ?

Complète avec very ou absolutely.

  1. The view from the top was ___ amazing.
  2. I’m ___ tired after the match.
  3. After the hike, we were ___ exhausted.
  4. This soup is ___ hot.
  5. It was ___ freezing in the tent.
  6. His jokes are ___ hilarious.
  7. The room is ___ small.
  8. The new stadium is ___ huge.
Exercice 8 : Barely, hardly ou extremely ?

Complète avec barely, hardly ever ou extremely.

  1. It was so dark that I could ___ see the path.
  2. My grandad ___ uses his phone; he prefers letters.
  3. The final was ___ exciting.
  4. We ___ had time to eat before the bus left.
  5. That cliff is ___ dangerous.
  6. She ___ watches TV: maybe twice a year.
Exercice 9 : Corrige les erreurs

Chaque phrase contient une erreur. Corrige-la.

  1. We went on a two-weeks holiday.
  2. She does speaks three languages.
  3. It was a very delicious meal.
  4. I didn’t barely sleep last night.
  5. He is a man with hair black.
  6. They did visited Edinburgh last summer.
  7. He’s a twelve years old boy.

Exercice 10 : Traduction français → anglais

Traduis en anglais.

  1. une pause de dix minutes
  2. une fille aux yeux verts
  3. un gâteau fait maison
  4. Je t’aime vraiment bien, tu sais !
  5. Mais si, on a fermé la fenêtre !
  6. Nous étions complètement épuisés.

Exercice 11 : Lis l’affiche et réponds

SUMMER CAMP IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

  6. Which sentence shows emphasis with did? Copy it.
Exercice 12 : Production guidée

Écris une critique enthousiaste (6 phrases) d’un film, d’un concert ou d’un voyage. Utilise :

  1. un adjectif composé avec un nombre ;
  2. un adjectif composé en -ed ;
  3. un adjectif composé avec un participe (well-known, mouth-watering…) ;
  4. une forme emphatique avec do, does ou did ;
  5. absolutely + un adjectif extrême ;
  6. barely ou hardly.
