Ces exercices groupe nominal complexe vont du repérage du nom noyau jusqu’à la rédaction d’un court article chiffré. Garde en tête la règle d’or : on lit de droite à gauche, et le nom placé devant reste au singulier.

Exercices groupe nominal : noms composés et quantifieurs

Exercice 1 : Trouver le nom noyau

Recopie le nom noyau de chaque groupe nominal, puis traduis le groupe en français.

  1. a football club
  2. the city council
  3. a school bus driver
  4. the Home Secretary
  5. a train ticket machine
  6. a summer music festival
Exercice 2 : Fabriquer le nom composé

Transforme l’expression en nom composé (nom + nom).

  1. a shop that sells shoes
  2. a brush for your teeth
  3. a teacher who teaches maths
  4. a park for cars
  5. a station where the police work
  6. a match of tennis
  7. a bottle for water
Exercice 3 : Adjectifs composés avec un nombre

Réécris la phrase avec un adjectif composé à traits d’union. Exemple : The boy is ten years old. → a ten-year-old boy.

  2. The girl is twelve years old. → a ___ girl
  3. The note is worth twenty pounds. → a ___ note
  4. The novel has 400 pages. → a ___ novel
  5. The walk is five miles long. → a ___ walk
  6. The break lasts fifteen minutes. → a ___ break
Exercice 4 : Le sens change avec l’ordre

Associe chaque groupe à sa traduction.

  1. a flower garden
  2. a garden flower
  3. a coffee cup
  4. a cup of coffee
  5. a horse race
  6. a race horse

Exercice 5 : Génitif générique, nom composé ou of ?

Choisis la bonne forme.

  1. She writes (children’s books / books of children).
  2. Can I have (a tea cup / a cup of tea), please? I’m thirsty.
  3. Read (the page bottom / the bottom of the page).
  4. He bought a (women’s magazine / magazine of women) for his mum.
  5. We need a new (kitchen table / table of kitchen).
  6. The (film end / end of the film) was very sad.
Exercice 6 : Few ou a few ?

Complète avec few ou a few selon le point de vue.

  1. Don’t worry, I’ve got ___ ideas for the project.
  2. Sadly, ___ students passed the test: it was too difficult.
  3. We’re spending ___ days in Edinburgh next month.
  4. The village is dying: ___ young people live there now.
  5. I made ___ mistakes, but my essay was good overall.
  6. Very ___ tourists visit the island in winter.
Exercice 7 : Little ou a little ?

Complète avec little ou a little.

  1. Could I have ___ sugar in my tea?
  2. There is ___ hope of finding survivors after so many days.
  3. He speaks ___ Spanish, enough to order a meal.
  4. She has very ___ patience with rude customers.
  5. Let’s wait ___ longer; the bus may come.
  6. They earn ___ money and can barely pay the rent.
Exercice 8 : Choisir le bon quantifieur

Entoure la forme correcte.

  1. There are (fewer / less) cars in the city centre since the new law.
  2. We need (less / fewer) plastic in our oceans.
  3. I have (quite a few / quite a little) cousins in Canada.
  4. He drank (too many / too much) coffee last night.
  5. (Few / Little) information was given to the passengers.
  6. Only (a few / a little) people know the truth.
Exercice 9 : Twice as much, three times as many

Complète avec as much ou as many, puis traduis la phrase.

  1. Teenagers send twice ___ messages ___ adults.
  2. This car uses half ___ petrol ___ the old one.
  3. She reads three times ___ books ___ her brother.
  4. Our school has twice ___ students ___ yours.
  5. A car produces ten times ___ pollution ___ a bus per passenger.

Exercice 10 : Document chiffré

Lis le tableau sur deux lycées britanniques, puis complète chaque phrase avec twice, three times ou half + as much / as many / as big … as.

Exercice 11 : Corriger les erreurs

Chaque phrase contient une erreur. Réécris-la correctement.

  1. She is a twelve-years-old girl.
  2. I bought a new books shop guide.
  3. We have little friends in this town, so we feel lonely.
  4. He earns two times more money as me.
  5. There were less people than last year.
  6. I’d like a cup for tea, please, with milk.
  7. They have twice as much books as us.
Exercice 12 : Traduire en anglais

Traduis en utilisant un groupe nominal complexe ou un quantifieur.

  1. un roman de 300 pages
  2. la cantine de l’école
  3. un magasin de vêtements pour enfants
  4. J’ai quelques questions.
  5. Il reste peu de temps.
  6. Nous avons deux fois plus de devoirs que l’an dernier.
  7. un trajet en bus de trois heures
Exercice 13 : Production guidée

Écris un court article (60 à 80 mots) pour le journal du lycée sur les écrans chez les ados. Utilise au moins : deux noms composés, un adjectif composé avec un nombre, few ou a few, little ou a little, et une structure twice as much / as many … as.
