Ce contrôle caricature évalue la description, l’analyse et l’interprétation d’une image de presse à partir d’une description écrite. Durée : 50 minutes. Barème : 20 points. Sans dictionnaire.

Le contrôle caricature

Document A (caricature, description) : A cartoon in a daily newspaper. A giant mobile phone with a human face towers over a crowd of tiny people. Each person is bent over a small screen and has a long chain attached to the ankle, linked to the giant phone. In the top corner, the caption reads: ‘Connected.’ In the background, an empty park bench and a dead tree.

Document B (photo de presse, description) : A black-and-white photograph taken after a flood. A boy carries a smaller child on his back through water up to his knees. Behind them, a half-submerged street sign reads ‘School Lane’. The boy looks straight at the camera.

Exercice 1 : Description (4 points)

Répondre en anglais, par une phrase complète, à chaque question sur le document A.

1. What is the main element of the cartoon?

2. What is attached to each person’s ankle?

3. What does the caption say?

4. What can be seen in the background?

Exercice 2 : Interprétation de la caricature (5 points)

Rédiger en anglais une réponse de deux ou trois phrases à chaque demande.

1. Explain what is exaggerated in the cartoon.

2. Explain the irony of the caption.

3. State the cartoonist’s message.

Exercice 3 : Photo de presse (4 points)

Répondre en anglais, par une phrase complète, à chaque question sur le document B.

1. What event is shown?

2. Why is the boy’s look at the camera striking?

3. What is the effect of the sign ‘School Lane’?

4. What emotion does the photograph aim to provoke?

Exercice 4 : Traduction (3 points)

Traduire en anglais.

1. Le dessinateur critique notre dépendance aux écrans.

2. La photographie en noir et blanc renforce l’émotion.

3. L’enfant semble regarder directement le lecteur.

Exercice 5 : Comparaison (4 points)

Rédiger en anglais, en environ 70 mots, une comparaison des deux documents : leur point commun, leur différence de forme et de ton.
