On December 1st, 1955, Rosa Parks, a seamstress from Montgomery, Alabama, refused to give her bus seat to a white passenger. She was arrested, and Black citizens decided to boycott the buses. The boycott lasted over a year. In 1956, the Supreme Court ruled that segregation on buses was illegal. A young pastor called Martin Luther King became the leader of the movement.
