Ce corrigé discours indirect reprend les douze exercices dans l’ordre. Pour chaque erreur, demande-toi lequel des trois réflexes tu as oublié : le bon verbe introducteur, le bon pronom ou le bon temps. Le mot that est toujours facultatif après say et tell.

Correction de l’exercice 1 : say ou tell ?
  1. told (suivi de la personne : me)
  2. said (pas de personne après le verbe)
  3. tell (expression tell the time, et personne : me)
  4. told (tell a story)
  5. said (citation directe sans personne)
  6. tell (tell lies)
  7. said (say something to somebody)
  8. told (ordre : tell somebody to do)
Correction de l’exercice 2 : changer les pronoms
  1. Emma says she loves her dog.
  2. Tom says his brother is annoying.
  3. The twins say they are hungry.
  4. Lucy says she can’t find her keys.
  5. Mr and Mrs Brown say their garden is too small.
  6. Jack says he will call me (ou he’ll call me).
Correction de l’exercice 3 : faire reculer les temps
  1. Mia said (that) she was tired.
  2. They said (that) they lived in Leeds.
  3. Ben said (that) he was watching TV.
  4. Grandma said (that) she would help me. (ou Grandma told me she would help me.)
  5. Leo said (that) he could swim.
  6. The kids said (that) they didn’t like spinach.
  7. Amy said (that) she had lost her phone. (prétérit → past perfect)

  1. now → c. then
  2. today → f. that day
  3. tomorrow → g. the next day
  4. yesterday → e. the day before
  5. here → a. there

Correction de l’exercice 5 : rapporter une question fermée
  1. Tom asked me if I was ready.
  2. She asked him if he liked jazz. (do disparaît, like passe au prétérit)
  3. The man asked Sarah if she could drive.
  4. Dad asked us if it was raining.
  5. Lily asked Sam if he would come to her party.
  6. The teacher asked me if I had finished my homework.
Correction de l’exercice 6 : rapporter une question ouverte
  1. She asked me where I lived.
  2. He asked what time it was.
  3. Mum asked Lucy why she was crying.
  4. Tom asked me how old my sister was. (le verbe passe après le sujet)
  5. Mrs Hill asked who could help her.
  6. A tourist asked when the train would leave.
Correction de l’exercice 7 : rapporter un ordre ou une demande
  1. Mum told me to close the door.
  2. The teacher told us not to run in the corridor.
  3. Mr Lee told the students to sit down.
  4. The farmer told the children not to touch the dog.
  5. Grandpa asked Tom to help him. (demande polie : ask)
  6. Dad told my sister not to be late.
Correction de l’exercice 8 : corriger les erreurs
  1. She told me that she was ill. (ou She said that she was ill.)
  2. He asked me where I lived.
  3. They said that they were happy. (tell exige une personne)
  4. Mum told me not to go out.
  5. Paul asked if I was French.
  6. She said she would come.
Correction de l’exercice 9 : rapporter un dialogue
  1. Ella asked Josh if he was coming to the football match that night.
  2. Josh said (that) he couldn’t.
  3. Josh explained (that) he had a maths test the next day.
  4. Ella asked him why he didn’t revise that afternoon.
  5. Josh said (that) he was working at his uncle’s shop that afternoon.
  6. Ella told him not to worry.
  7. Ella promised (that) she would send him the score.

On raconte la scène plusieurs jours plus tard : tonight devient that night, tomorrow devient the next day, this afternoon devient that afternoon.

Correction de l’exercice 10 : traduire en anglais
  1. She told me (that) she was tired.
  2. He said (that) he liked rugby.
  3. I asked him if he was hungry. (avoir faim = be hungry)
  4. They asked us where we lived.
  5. The teacher told us to be quiet.
  6. Mum told me not to forget my coat.
Correction de l’exercice 11 : traduire en français
  1. Il a dit qu’il téléphonerait plus tard. (would = conditionnel)
  2. Elle m’a demandé si je pouvais l’aider.
  3. Ils nous ont dit de ne pas faire de bruit.
  4. J’ai demandé à Tom pourquoi il était triste.
  5. Mon ami a dit qu’il avait vu le film.
Correction de l’exercice 12 : transmettre un message vocal
  1. Kate said (that) she was in Paris with her parents.
  2. She said (that) they were staying at a hotel near the Eiffel Tower.
  3. She asked me if I could meet her the next day. (le message date d’hier : tomorrow = aujourd’hui, mais au discours indirect on écrit the next day ; on peut aussi dire if I could meet her today)
  4. She told me to call her that night. (ou last night)
  5. She told me not to forget.

Comment progresser après ce corrigé

Classe tes erreurs en trois colonnes : verbe introducteur, pronoms, temps. La colonne la plus remplie te dit quoi réviser en priorité. Entraîne-toi ensuite à l’oral : demande à quelqu’un de te dire une phrase, puis rapporte-la aussitôt à voix haute en commençant par He said… ou She asked me…. Fais-le dix fois de suite, et les réflexes de concordance deviendront automatiques.
