August 17th, 1805, near the Rocky Mountains. Today was an extraordinary day. We woke up early and walked for hours along the river. The mountains in front of us were covered with snow and they looked impossible to cross. In the afternoon, we met a group of Shoshone people. Sacagawea suddenly began to cry and ran towards their chief: he was her brother! Thanks to her, the Shoshone gave us horses. In the evening, I saw a strange animal with long ears and very long legs. I am exhausted, but I am proud and excited: the ocean is getting closer.
