Ce contrôle prétérit continu d’anglais de 4ème (niveau A2+) porte sur le thème « Le prétérit en be + -ing ». Durée : 30 minutes. Barème : 20 points, répartis sur 6 exercices. Exercice 1 : Conjuguer les verbes (4 points)

Compléter chaque phrase avec le verbe entre parenthèses, au temps qui convient.

  1. At eight o’clock last night, my brother (play) ____ video games.
  2. When the phone rang, we (have) ____ dinner.
  3. It (rain) ____ when I left school.
  4. They (not / watch) ____ TV at nine o’clock.
  5. What (you / do) ____ when the lights went out?
  6. She (cross) ____ the street when she saw an old friend.
Exercice 2 : Choisir le bon temps (3 points)

Entourer la forme correcte dans chaque phrase.

  1. While Tom (read / was reading) a book, his sister (cooked / was cooking) dinner.
  2. I (met / was meeting) Sam when I (walked / was walking) to school.
  3. The film (started / was starting) at seven and finished at nine.
  4. When the teacher came in, the pupils (talked / were talking).
  5. We (arrived / were arriving) at the station at six yesterday.
  6. He (broke / was breaking) his arm while he (skied / was skiing).
Exercice 3 : Interroger et nier (3 points)

Transformer chaque phrase selon la consigne entre crochets.

  1. Anna was listening to music. [forme négative]
  2. The children were playing in the garden. [forme interrogative]
  3. He was driving too fast. [forme interrogative]
  4. We were waiting for the bus. [forme négative]
  5. It was snowing in the mountains. [forme interrogative]
  6. I was sleeping at midnight. [forme négative]
Exercice 4 : Relier les deux actions (3 points)

Réunir les deux phrases en une seule avec while ou when, en conjuguant correctement.

  1. I (take) a shower. The phone (ring).
  2. She (walk) in the park. She (find) a wallet.
  3. They (play) football. It (start) to rain.
  4. Dad (cook). The smoke alarm (go off).
  5. We (watch) a film. The power (cut out).
Exercice 5 : Comprendre un court texte (4 points)

Lire le texte, puis répondre en anglais par une phrase complète.

Last Friday evening, Lily was drawing in her room at seven o’clock. Her mother was talking on the phone in the kitchen and her father was reading the newspaper. Suddenly, the lights went out. The neighbours were away, so the street was completely dark. Lily found a torch and went downstairs.

  1. What was Lily doing at 7 p.m.?
  2. Who was talking on the phone?
  3. What happened while Lily was drawing?
  4. Were the neighbours at home?
  5. What did Lily do next?
Exercice 6 : Écrire quelques phrases (3 points)

Écrire trois phrases pour décrire ce que faisaient trois membres d’une famille hier à 20 heures, puis une phrase sur un événement qui les a interrompus.

  1. Phrase 1 : le père
  2. Phrase 2 : la mère
  3. Phrase 3 : les enfants
  4. Phrase 4 : l’événement
