Roald Dahl was a British writer who is famous for his funny and sometimes dark children’s books. He was born in Llandaff, in Wales, on 13 September 1916. His parents were from Norway. When he was three, his father died. He went to boarding schools in England, which he hated. After leaving school, he worked for an oil company in Africa. During the Second World War, he became a fighter pilot and he was badly injured in a crash in 1940. Later, he started writing stories. In 1964, he published Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which became a huge success. He died in Oxford in 1990, but his books are still read by millions of children today.
