Ces exercices wish et if only t’entraînent à transformer une réalité en souhait ou en regret, puis à choisir la bonne structure selon la situation. Avant chaque réponse, demande-toi si l’on parle du présent, du passé ou d’un changement attendu.

Exercices wish et if only : du souhait au regret

Exercice 1 : Souhait ou regret ?

Indique si la phrase exprime un souhait sur le présent (S), un regret sur le passé (R) ou un changement attendu (C).

  1. I wish I had a bigger bedroom.
  2. I wish I hadn’t shouted at my friend.
  3. I wish the bus would come.
  4. She wishes she were on holiday.
  5. If only we had left earlier!
  6. I wish my neighbours would turn the music down.
Exercice 2 : Wish + prétérit

Conjugue le verbe entre parenthèses pour exprimer un souhait sur le présent.

  1. I wish I (have) ___ more free time.
  2. He wishes he (be) ___ taller.
  3. We wish we (live) ___ in a big city.
  4. I wish I (can) ___ play the guitar.
  5. My sister wishes she (not / have to) ___ wear glasses.
  6. I wish it (be) ___ the weekend.
  7. They wish they (know) ___ the truth.
Exercice 3 : Wish + past perfect

Conjugue le verbe pour exprimer un regret sur le passé.

  1. I wish I (bring) ___ my camera yesterday.
  2. She wishes she (not / say) ___ that.
  3. We wish we (book) ___ the tickets earlier.
  4. I wish I (listen) ___ to my teacher’s advice.
  5. He wishes he (not / spend) ___ all his money.
  6. They wish they (see) ___ the final.
Exercice 4 : De la réalité au souhait

Réécris chaque phrase avec I wish. Attention : la réalité s’inverse.

  1. I don’t speak Italian.
  2. I am not good at maths.
  3. I didn’t go to the party.
  4. I ate too many sweets.
  5. I can’t swim.
  6. I forgot my friend’s birthday.
  7. I live far from my school.
Exercice 5 : Wish + would

Écris ce que chaque personne souhaite avec wish + would ou wouldn’t.

  1. My little brother always takes my things. (I wish…)
  2. It never stops raining. (We wish…)
  3. My dad always sings in the car. (I wish…)
  4. The teacher gives too much homework. (The pupils wish…)
  5. My friend never answers my messages. (I wish…)
Exercice 6 : If only

Complète ces exclamations avec If only et le verbe à la bonne forme.

  1. If only I (win) ___ the lottery last week!
  2. If only she (be) ___ here now!
  3. If only we (not / miss) ___ the train this morning!
  4. If only I (can) ___ go back in time!
  5. If only he (tell) ___ me the truth yesterday!
  6. If only my parents (let) ___ me have a cat!
Exercice 7 : Wish ou hope ?

Choisis wish ou hope et conjugue si nécessaire.

  1. I ___ you have a good trip. See you soon!
  2. I ___ I were older.
  3. We ___ it will be sunny tomorrow.
  4. She ___ she had a brother.
  5. I ___ you pass your exam.
  6. He ___ he hadn’t lost his phone.
Exercice 8 : Corrige les erreurs

Chaque phrase contient une erreur. Recopie-la correctement.

  1. I wish I have a dog.
  2. She wish she were a famous singer.
  3. I wish I went to the concert last night.
  4. I wish I would be on holiday.
  5. If only I didn’t said that yesterday!
  6. He wishes he can drive.
Exercice 9 : Le concert manqué

Lis le journal intime, puis réponds aux questions en anglais.

Saturday, 14th June

Tonight, my favourite band played in the park right next to my house. I could hear the music from my bedroom window, but I wasn’t there. I had to stay at home because I had a history test on Monday, and I hadn’t revised at all. I wish I had started revising earlier! All my friends went and they are posting videos now. If only I could be with them! I wish my parents weren’t so strict. Next time, I’ll organise my work better so I won’t miss anything. I hope the band comes back next year.

  1. Why didn’t the writer go to the concert?
  2. Find a regret about the past.
  3. Find a wish about the present with wish.
  4. Find a wish with if only.
  5. Why does the writer use hope in the last sentence and not wish?
  6. Rewrite this sentence with I wish: « I hadn’t revised at all. »
Exercice 10 : Traduis en anglais

Traduis en utilisant wish ou if only.

  1. J’aimerais habiter à Londres.
  2. Je regrette de ne pas être venu.
  3. Si seulement il faisait beau !
  4. Elle aimerait savoir nager.
  5. J’aurais aimé rencontrer ton cousin.
  6. J’aimerais bien que tu arrêtes de crier !
Exercice 11 : Traduis en français

Traduis ces phrases de façon naturelle.

  1. I wish I were at the beach.
  2. He wishes he hadn’t sold his bike.
  3. If only I had known!
  4. I wish they would stop arguing.
  5. We wish we could stay longer.
Exercice 12 : Production guidée : souhaits et regrets

Écris un court texte (8 à 10 phrases) intitulé Wishes and regrets. Respecte ces consignes :

  1. trois souhaits sur ta vie actuelle avec I wish + prétérit (dont un avec were et un avec could) ;
  2. deux regrets sur ton passé avec I wish + past perfect ;
  3. un souhait de changement avec I wish … would ;
  4. une exclamation avec If only ;
  5. une phrase finale avec I hope pour un espoir réaliste.
